Synopsis

Alice by Heart is a powerful and imaginative musical inspired by Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, set against the backdrop of World War II London. As bombs fall and the city is thrown into chaos, a group of young people take shelter in an underground tube station. Among them is Alice Spencer, a bright and curious teenager faced with the impending loss of her best friend, Alfred, who is ill with tuberculosis.

When reality becomes too painful to bear, Alice escapes into the world of Wonderland, transforming the people in the shelter into Lewis Carroll’s iconic characters. As fantasy and reality blur, Alice must confront her fear, grief, and the inevitability of growing up. Through humor, heart, and soaring music by Duncan Sheik with lyrics by Steven Sater, Alice by Heart explores the power of storytelling, the resilience of young love, and how we hold on to light in the darkest of times.
