Annie Jr. Performance Class
Show: Annie Jr
With equal measures of pluck and positivity, little orphan Annie charms everyone's hearts despite a next-to-nothing start in 1930s New York City. Annie is determined to find the parents who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of an orphanage run by the cruel Miss Hannigan. Annie eventually foils Miss Hannigan's evil machinations, finding a new home and family in billionaire Oliver Warbucks, his personal secretary, Grace Farrell, and a lovable mutt named Sandy.
Class description
This season, we are bringing our entire Playact community together for one unified production experience. Annie Jr. will be a full-scale musical theatre production open to students in Kindergarten through 10th grade, creating a vibrant, multi-age cast that mirrors how theatre actually works.
Students will rehearse and perform alongside peers of different ages and experience levels. Younger actors gain confidence and learn by example, while older students are given the space to lead, support, and deepen their craft. Every role is shaped to meet each student where they are and move them forward.
This is not a drop-in camp. It is a structured, intentional rehearsal process.
Each week, students work with experienced theatre professionals on blocking, choreography, vocal performance, and storytelling using an authorized, age-appropriate script and score. The focus is on building strong performers and a connected ensemble, not just putting on a show.
The process leads to two fully produced, ticketed performances on the mainstage at Valparaiso University. From first read-through to final curtain, students experience what it means to be part of something bigger than themselves and take pride in work that is fully realized in a professional setting.
