Overview
When being smart is the ultimate act of rebellion.
We’re thrilled to announce auditions for Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical, a sharp, funny, big-hearted show driven by fearless kids and bold storytelling.
This production calls for strong young actors who can think independently, tell a story clearly, and commit fully to the moment. Matilda isn’t about polished tricks or surface-level cuteness. It’s about truth, imagination, and courage. We’re looking for performers who can handle smart comedy, grounded emotion, and clear vocal storytelling.
The core of the show includes a featured group of school-aged children (playing students roughly ages 10–15, regardless of the actor’s actual age), along with Matilda. Additional teen and adult performers will be cast as older students, parents, and faculty. We are not planning a large children’s ensemble beyond the featured student group.
Auditions will focus on song, acting, and movement. Callbacks may include cold readings, song cuts from the show, and a short movement combination. Strong singers matter, but so does character. We want performers who listen, react, and make specific choices.
This is an ensemble-driven piece with heart and bite. Come prepared, come curious, and come ready to play smart.
Synopsis
Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical is the story of a brilliant little girl with an extraordinary mind and an unshakable sense of justice.
Matilda Wormwood is underestimated at every turn. Her parents don’t see her gifts, her school is ruled by fear, and the adults in charge would rather silence her than listen. But Matilda refuses to shrink. Armed with her intelligence, imagination, and fierce belief in what’s right, she begins to challenge the unfair world around her.
At school, Matilda finds an unlikely ally in Miss Honey, a kind teacher trapped under the rule of the terrifying headmistress, Miss Trunchbull. Together with her classmates, Matilda discovers that even the smallest voices can spark real change. Through courage, cleverness, and unity, these “revolting children” learn that standing up for yourself can rewrite the story entirely.
Funny, sharp, and deeply heartfelt, Matilda the Musical celebrates intelligence, resilience, and the power of choosing who you want to be—no matter how small the odds may seem.
