Playact Theatre is proud to charter an official troupe of the International Thespian Society (ITS) through the Educational Theatre Association (EdTA), the honor society for middle and high school theatre students.

Thespian membership is designed for students who are committed to growing as theatre artists. Because induction recognizes achievement in the performing arts, students must have previous theatre or performance experience before becoming eligible. At Playact, students generally qualify after participating in at least two Youth or Teen Company productions and meeting the required participation standards established by the Educational Theatre Association.

Once eligible, students are formally inducted into the troupe and begin earning official Thespian points that recognize their accomplishments in theatre.

Induction into the International Thespian Society demonstrates dedication, leadership, artistry, and service. It provides students with nationally recognized credentials that can strengthen college applications, scholarship opportunities, résumés, and future careers in the arts.

As members of our troupe, students also have the opportunity to participate in Educational Theatre Association events, including regional and national Thespian Festivals. These events allow students to:

• Attend workshops taught by theatre professionals
• Receive feedback from industry experts
• Compete in the Thespy Awards, recognizing excellence in performance and technical theatre
• Audition for college theatre programs
• Compete for scholarships
• Connect with theatre students from across the country

Membership Levels

Junior Thespian (Grades 6–8)

• One-time induction fee: $17
• Students are inducted into the Junior Thespian Society and may be inducted into the International Thespian Society upon entering high school.

Thespian (Grades 9–12)

• One-time induction fee: $35
